New Year, New Goals

For most people, the New Year means new resolutions to start the year off right. Whether your resolutions are for yourself, or for others, here are some tips to help you reach your goals for 2019.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself

The key to sticking to your goals is to be realistic. Make sure that you aren’t making too many resolutions for yourself – start by setting a couple realistic goals and try to stick to them. You’ll feel great once you reach them and once you do, you can move on to more of your resolutions!

Schedule, schedule, schedule!

Try to set a schedule for yourself for each goal. Use a calendar to track your progress for each resolution. Also, writing down what you want to accomplish each week in a planner will help you stay on track. These are ways to actually look at what you want to accomplish! They will help motivate you and make you feel great about your accomplishments each week – which you should!

Remind yourself about your goals

It’s easy to fall out of habit with something even if you’re trying your best to stick to it everyday. Make it a little easier for yourself by putting reminders around your house in places where you might feel tempted to take a cheat day. For example, if you’re trying to eat healthier this year, put reminders around your kitchen and around food items that might tempt you to have a cheat meal.

Treat yourself!

Don’t make your goals out to be punishments. If you find yourself making great progress, reward yourself! Encouraging the behaviour that is helping you achieve your goals will make you want to complete them even more. For example, if you want to lose weight by running, after you’ve reached your weekly goals, treat yourself to an at-home spa day at the end of the week!

While making resolutions can seem like a good idea at the beginning of the year, it can be hard to stick to them once the year goes on. Stick with these tips in order to stay on track for the whole year!
